Terry Lee Eygabroad passed away on Friday, September 18th with his wife, children and daughter-in-law by his side. Terry was born on December 27, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Earl and Ann Eygabroad. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1969, where he excelled in several sports. After high school, he attended Marshalltown Community College, where he was also a key member of the baseball team. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Terry would later add a Master’s of Administration Degree from UNI to his education credentials.

Upon earning his bachelor’s degree, Terry taught and coached at a number of different schools, including Marion High School, Anson Junior High (in Marshalltown), Marshalltown High School, Marshalltown Community College and Meskwaki Settlement School. After “retirement” from teaching, Terry was a math consultant for Area Education Association 267 in Marshalltown. Mr. Eygabroad, or “Coach,” was known for inserting fun into learning and his influence is still felt to this day, with many of his former students and athletes going into education or coaching in part because of his influence.

There were many legendary “Terry” moments throughout the years, and he was always a favorite of students, athletes, fellow teachers and co-workers. No matter where he went, he made friends instantly and was ALWAYS the life of the party. If Terry was around, good times were sure to follow. When you talked to him, you most likely walked away with a smile.

Along with over 30 years of teaching and coaching, Terry raised three children: Troy, Mindy and Travis. On December 26th, 2003, he was wed to Lynne Mairs Nixon, gaining two more children: Elizabeth (Jay) Appel and James Nixon. He was the proud grandparent to 15 grandchildren: Isabel, Hunter, Dylan, Elena, Kylee, Nathanael, Layla, David, Alexis, Dominic, Chase, Michelle, Nixon, Palmer and Hope.

Terry was preceded in death by a son, Joshua; his parents and his sister, Kay Kingery.

Butala Funeral Home has been entrusted with his remains.

There will be a public celebration in Terry’s honor on October 10, 2020, starting at 4:00 PM at the American Legion in Marshalltown. Come to share a laugh, a story, a beer…or, in honor of Terry, all three!

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you would please consider a donation to the Marshalltown High School Athletic Department. Please make checks out to the Marshalltown Community School District and in the memo section write “In memory of Terry Eygabroad.
