CBS Sports has ranked Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the seventh-best quarterback in the NFL after six games so far this season.
Previously, Allen was ranked as their fifth-best QB after five outings.
Despite the drop, the outlet says Allen’s dip mostly had to do with outside circumstances:
Don’t mistake the drop for anything he’s done; the other top-10 QBs are just too good. Allen is killing it as a deep-ball specialist, just chucking it up with regular success. (-2)
Allen’s dip does come as a surprise because of that last outing. If you remove a failed QB sneak attempt, Buffalo’s QB had a heck of a stat line last week against the Tennessee Titans.
Overall, Allen was 35-for-47 passing for 353 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
It looks like that fact that the Bills did lose that game, 34-31, was an overlying factor here.
Week 6 was also the first time in Allen’s career that he threw for over 300 yards and the Bills lost.
Looking forward, Allen is likely to be a riser in the coming weeks in such a ranking. He faces a few lackluster defensive teams coming out of the bye, the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets, respectively.
In terms of QBs currently ranked above him, here is CBS’ top-six:
- Tom Brady
- Aaron Rodgers
- Dak Prescott
- Patrick Mahomes
- Lamar Jackson
- Kyler Murray
