Comics books for children are more than just a fictional world to be absorbed in. It goes a long way in shaping a child’s perception of life, and the world as a whole. Since its inception, comics have always glorified virtue, making good win over all evil. While this has helped children develop their ability to judge people and situations, the constant portrayal of white characters as heroes has hinted at an underlying, perhaps unintentional, touch of racism. Comic book heroes and superheroes are always white, while villains or evil characters are often portrayed as Black.

For years, this has made Black children feel inferior when they cannot relate to the appearance of the heroes or superheroes in their comics. Black Sands Entertainment, a renowned comic publisher, has stepped in to change this norm for kids of the Black community. Since its inception in 2016, Black Sands Entertainment has been building powerful IPs for the Black community every year

Currently, Black Sands Entertainment is the largest Black-focused comic book publisher leading the way to revolutionize comic fiction for kids. Manuel Godoy, the owner, president, and one of the authors at Black Sands Entertainment, came up with this innovative idea after earning a bachelor’s degree in economics. Being a creator at heart, Manuel always knew where his forte lay. He started looking at his creative skills from a business point of view after graduating. He then realized how modern comics continue to instill misconceptions about a hero’s appearance, which highly impacts kids in the Black community as they grow up considering themselves inferior because of the way they look.

Black Sands Entertainment is a humble initiative by Manuel to change how comics portray the world for the future generation. Manuel has authored two comics under the banner, namely Black Sands the Seven Kingdoms and Cosmic Girls. The overwhelming response from the comics encouraged him to think of publishing comics on a bigger scale. He started by hiring an intellectual team of talented people from the Black community, who believed in his vision about comics. Today, veterans from Disney and Pixar are working for this banner, creating magic with their ideas.

Since then, Black Sands Entertainment has been rolling out one popular comic after another. The list includes Black Sands, The First Pharaoh, Ineola, Inca the Legend of Kiz Kiz, and many more. The publisher has always kept a keen eye on the quality of the product that reaches the customers. Manuel has been focused on bringing the rich African cultural heritage back to children’s lives.
