COVID-19 has hit almost every aspect of our lives and lockdown has become the new normal. One of the most relevant sector that has faced the maximum impact is ‘Sports’. How did Coronavirus impact on sports? How are athletes dealing with lockdown?
On the occasion of National Sports Day, Mirror Now speaks to India’s top athletes to discuss how they are dealing with the new normal, from modifying their training regimes to stay fit physically and mentally amid pandemic crisis.
While, Archer Atanu Das says, ‘I have been doing Yoga & meditation every day to deal with the lockdown. Our national camp in Pune just re-opened and I’m very excited to join and start my training soon’, Dronacharya awardee & Chief coach of Indian Badminton Team Pullela Gopichand & Former Indian Shooter Suma Shirur says, ‘Initially it felt like a mini vacation but now, after 5 months, it’s a little too much. The lockdown hasn’t eased in many parts so we don’t have permissions to open shooting ranges. It’s getting difficult for the teenager shooters more’.
Other members in the panel including Athlete Hima Das, Badminton Player Srikant Kidambi, Wrestler Babita Phogat also share their lockdown stories and brief on how can Sports be conducted amid COVID-19 era.
