The Kerala police on Saturday registered a case towards a lady professor of the National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT) for her Facebook remark “expressing pride” in Nathuram Godse for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi and thus “saving India”.

Multiple complaints had been lodged towards Professor A Shaija in a number of police stations within the metropolis by varied pupil organisations, together with Students’ Federation of India, Kerala Students Union and MSF, following which an FIR was registered towards her.

Indian Penal Code Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with the intent to trigger riot) was invoked towards the professor.

Complaints had been filed towards her on the Kunnamangalam and Nadakkavu police stations, amongst others.

Shaija, a senior school member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT right here on January 30 posted a touch upon Facebook saying “Proud of Godse for saving India”.

She had commented on a publish by a lawyer, Krishna Raj, who posted Godse’s {photograph} saying “Hindu Mahasabha activist Nathuram Vinayak Godse, a hero of many in India”.

A senior police official of the district instructed PTI {that a} case has been registered towards the professor and the investigation has begun.

However, because the matter grew to become controversial, the professor deleted her remark.

The NIT has been marred by controversy for the previous few weeks after a piece of scholars celebrated the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

A pupil named Vyshakh, who reportedly protested towards the celebration was suspended by the school following a brawl between two sections of the scholars.

The motion towards Vyshakh was halted on February 2 after he approached the appellate authority within the establishment.
