SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls varsity soccer team fell to Saranac Central, 6-1 at home on Friday.
Alex Ladue opened up the scoring on a penalty kick within the first 10 minutes of play to give the Red Storm the 1-0 lead.
Saranac Lake’s lead would not stay as Saranac’s Sydney Myers scored her first goal of the game to make the score 1-1. Meyers finished the game with four goals.
Along with the four goals from Meyers, Saranac’s Olivia Davis added two goals to finish the game 6-1.
“Saranac is a very good team,” Saranac Lake head coach Jason Wamsganz said in a statement. “They are well-coached and their players move the ball very unselfishly.
“We had problems with keeping our shape and that is a compliment to Saranac’s ability to move the ball quickly and pull us out of position,” he added. “They have a few girls who can change the direction of play with great accuracy and quickness.”
Wamsganz credited Karlie Goetz for her performance in net for the Red Storm. Goetz had 16 saves.
“Over the course of the last four games we have had our opportunities to score,” Wamsganz said. “We just have to keep working hard. This is an amazing bunch of young ladies.”
Following the loss, Saranac Lake will travel to take on Beekmantown Central on Tuesday.
