The Franklin County school system has openings for preschool for the 2020-2021 school year. Call the F.C. Board of Education at 931-967-0626 and ask for Beth or Patti.

The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to donate blood from Sept. 4-8 and receive a pair of Red Cross-branded socks while supplies last. A blood drive will be held Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Franklin County High School, 833 Bypass Road, Winchester and on Sept. 8 from 1-6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 108 E. Grundy St., Tullahoma. Make an appointment by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Blood Assurance donor center at 652 N. Jackson St., Tullahoma is accepting blood donations. Call 931-461-5773 for information.

A commodity food distribution will be held Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at 1041 Wilton Circle, Winchester. Clients are asked to remain in their vehicles with the windows rolled up. Commodity printout or ID should be presented through the window. Staff will place food in trunks. For info, call 931-967-1438.

Lung cancer screening coach

 The CHI Memorial Breathe Easy Lung Coach will be parked at Franklin County Library, 105 S. Porter St., Winchester, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information or to make an appointment, call 423-495-5864. Walk-ins also welcome.

Everyone is invited to attend the Multi-County Cancer Support Network’s 27th annual Walk-A-Thon Sept. 11 from 6-10:30 p.m. at the old FCHS football stadium on Dinah Shore Blvd. It’s free to come and enjoy live music and other entertainment. In-memory candles are also available to purchase as well as quilt giveaway tickets.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Tullahoma and Lynchburg will be held Sept. 19. This year’s event is everywhere, on every sidewalk, track, walking trail, online, on your street and in your community.  Register at act.alz.org and download the Walk to End Alzheimer’s app to track your steps and receive messages of support along the way.

Dixie Sims Memorial Bluegrass Gospel singing

The Dixie Sims Memorial Bluegrass and Gospel singing is Sept. 26 from 4-8 p.m. at Camp Rain, 626 Bennett Cemetery Road, Decherd. Featured groups include The Sims Family, The Agee Family and Boyett Sisters. Seats will be provided, but you may bring your own. Supper and concessions will be available.

The Winchester Wriggle is Sept. 26 from 5-9 p.m. in downtown Winchester. Enjoy arts and music while strolling the Square.

A Red Cross blood drive will be held Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Franklin County High School, 833 Bypass Road Winchester.

Hospice of the Highland Rim Foundation invites everyone to a 5K turkey trot run/walk and one-mile fun run Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at Tims Ford State Park. Check in at 7:30 a.m. at the visitor’s center for the event that starts at 9 a.m. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to enter in this moderate out-and-back paved trail. All entrants are guaranteed at T-shirt if registered by Oct. 2. Register online at www.hospiceofthehighlandrimfoundation.org/5k-turkey-run.html, pick up a form at the Visitor’s Center, send an email to HHRF@lighttube.net or call 931-563-7439. Proceeds benefit hospice patients in Franklin, Bedford, Cannon, Coffee, Grundy, Lincoln, Moore and Warren counties. Fee is $35 individual or $100 for up to five individuals as a team. Participants will be awarded at the visitor’s center after the race. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
