TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Bryce Young passed for 371 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores, carrying No. 4 Alabama to a 52-24 victory over traditional rival Tennessee. Brian Robinson ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Crimson Tide score 21 points in the first six-plus minutes of the final quarter. That turned a mostly competitive game against the Volunteers, fueled by Hendon Hooker’s 282-yard passing performance, into another lopsided final score. The result was Alabama’s 15th consecutive win in the border rivalry.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Ainias Smith had a 95-yard punt return for a touchdown and Jalen Wydermyer added two TD catches as No. 17 Texas A&M built a huge first-half lead and coasted to a 44-14 rout of South Carolina Saturday night. The star rushing duo of Isaiah Spiller and Devone Achane continued to do damage for the Aggies. They combined for 256 yards and two touchdowns a week after rushing for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2 SEC) raced out to a 31-0 lead by halftime and a 35-yard touchdown scamper by Achane made it 41-0 late in the third.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Will Rogers threw a career-best four touchdowns, two to wide receiver Makai Polk, and Mississippi State was never challenged in a 45-6 Southeastern Conference win over Vanderbilt. Rogers threw for first-half touchdowns of 31 and nine yards to Polk, and to wide receiver Rufus Harvey for six yards. He added one more in the third quarter with a nine-yard completion to wide receiver Malik Heath. Vanderbilt settled for a pair of field goals with Joseph Bulovas hitting from 27 and 41 yards.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Sophomore quarterback K.J. Jefferson threw for a career-high four touchdowns, all coming before halftime, as Arkansas scored the first 45 points and defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 45-3. Arkansas was in dire need of a bounce-back on the heels of a three-game losing streak, all against Southeastern Conference foes, and got it Saturday, at the expense of the Golden Lions. The Razorbacks scored touchdowns on each of their first two possessions. Treylon Burks, a junior wide receiver, caught two of Jefferson’s TD passes and also had a 49-yard sweep around the right side for the Razorbacks’ second touchdown.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — At best, Florida coach Dan Mullen is merely experiencing a down year. At worst, his team has plateaued and needs a leadership change. The reality is probably somewhere in between. Mullen has provided Florida with more downs than ups during the last two seasons. That’s raised speculation about the direction of the program and Mullen’s long-term viability as its coach. The Gators have lost six of their last eight against Power Five opponents. The spotlight on Mullen will either dim or intensify when the unranked Gators play top-ranked Georgia in nearby Jacksonville next Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) — There is a developing College Football Playoff race between an outgoing Big 12 school and an incoming Big 12 school. No. 2 Cincinnati, heading to the Big 12 at some point, and No. 3 Oklahoma, leaving the Big 12 at some point, remained undefeated, though neither was at its best. Two more top-10 teams lost to unranked opponents in Week 8, including an epic offense failure for No. 7 Penn State. Iowa State and Wisconsin surged back into their conference races while No. 23 Pitt put Clemson’s Atlantic Coast Conference championship hopes in critical condition.
