We already know that Huawei is working on at least one new smart wearable – the Watch Fit. A new and rather bountiful leak now adds a Watch GT 2 Pro to the list, as well. Like the name suggests, this is not an entirely new device, like the rectangular Fit, but rather an upgrade, or next iteration of the company’s flagship GT line of wearables.
There is a lot to note here, so, in no particular order, we start with the fact that, apparently, the Watch GT 2 Pro will come in at least a Classic and a Sport variant. With Nebula Gray and Night Black as a pair from what will likely be a wider pool of colors. Huawei is certainly no stranger to having different variants of its Watch GT devices. The current flagship Watch GT 2 comes in two distinctly-different 46mm and 42mm size variants, each of them with a Classic, Sport and Elite editions.
The GT 2 Pro leak doesn’t offer enough info to really say anything about size variants and potential differences there. It does, however, mention titanium as the body material. Looking at the pictured design itself, we can’t help but note the significantly slicked and slimmer rim on the Watch GT 2 Pro, compared to the vanilla. In fact, that’s sort of a departure from the big bezel aesthetic of most recent Huawei and Honor smart wearables. The new design harkens back to original Huawei Watch, from 2015. Unlike it and the GT 2, however, the GT 2 Pro appears to use a slightly less-standard strap attachment design, with the unit’s sides digging into the band, for a tighter look.
Apart from the abundant product images, the leak also features a few alleged specs for the Watch GT 2 Pro. Apparently, it will feature a 5ATM water resistance rating, professional health monitoring, backed by over 100 new exercise modes and tracking of SpO2, plus an advanced GPU system. There will be a speaker on board, which is also apparent from one of the images, showing the watch making a call.
Charging will be wireless, including the ability to charge the watch from any compatible reverse-charging smartphone. The leak does mention something along the lines of reverse wireless charging from the watch itself. But, that seems quite unlikely and is probably a typo or translation mistake. As per the source, a single battery charge will be good for 2 weeks, which leads us to believe that Huawei won’t be shifting away from the Huawei wearable platform. Hence, if you are a stickler for technicality, since that OS does not allow for third-party apps, any device running it is not a true smartwatch, but rather a smart wearable.
Anyway, rounding the substantial leak off, we have some renders of the magnetic, wireless charging base for the Watch GT 2 Pro. If those are to be believed, it is rated at 10W (5V@2A) as an input. Of course, due to the inherent inefficiency of wireless charging, that’s not going to be nearly the amount of current going into the watch itself.
Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro EEC certification
Finally, a certification filing from the European Economic Community offers little extra info on the upcoming Watch GT 2 Pro, but does conveniently include a model number – VID-B19. One that might come in handy for identifying potential future leaks. We will keep you posted if such come along.
