London (AP) —London gave Princess Diana a blue plaque on Wednesday at what she called her hometown, two years before she married Prince Charles and began living in a fishbowl.
For Diana, 60 Coleherne Court, an apartment near London’s fashionable King’s Road, was the beginning of a new adventure. Diana settled in the capital on her 18th birthday and shared an apartment with many friends from 1979 to 1981. So she first started to open a courtroom in Charles.
One of her roommates, Virginia Clark, helped unveil the English Heritage shield at the ceremony on Wednesday.
“They were happy days for all of us, and Flat was always full of laughter. Diana has become so much to many. It’s great to remember her legacy this way. That is. “
According to Andrew Morton’s 1992 best-selling book, Diana, in her own words, Diana described her year at the property as “the happiest time of her life.”
Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, is the most famous former member of the honored monarchy. She was nominated by the London Assembly in 2019 after her body ran a campaign asking Londoners to propose women worthy of blue plaque.
Andrew Boff, President of the London Assembly, said: “Diana had a very special place in the hearts of Londoners.
Honor comes in the year she would have celebrated her 60th birthday.
“Diana is one of the most famous women in the world, and she used her fame and influence to raise awareness of issues such as homelessness and land mines,” said English Heritage Curator Director. Annailvis says.
“It’s appropriate for our blue plaque to remember her in this place where her worldly life first began,” she added.
The famous London Blue Plaque Program started over 150 years ago. Shield commemorates those who have accomplished something valuable in their lives and at some point made London their hometown. There are more than 900 official plaques in the capital.
