Senior bureaucrat Rajesh Bhushan has taken charge as Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He has replaced Preeti Sudan, who was given a three-month extension in April and demitted office on Friday, July 31.
“Rajesh Bhushan, IAS (Bihar:1987) took charge as Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on superannuation of Preeti Sudan, at Nirman Bhawan today,” the health ministry said.
As part of the top-level bureaucratic reshuffle on Friday, Bhushan, a 1987 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, was appointed Union Health Secretary. In April this year, he was appointed Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Health in April.

The decision has come to the fore at a time when number of covid-19 cases has been on the rise and Health Ministry being at the forefront to combat the situation.
