A group of hockey moms and dads is turning aspiration into reality, hoping to bring a new multimillion-dollar youth athletics facility to Reynoldsburg.
The Center Ice Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization, is partnering with the city on a complex that includes plans for two indoor ice rinks, a field house, a hotel, restaurants and medical office space to be built at the corner of Main and Hanson streets.
Mayor Joe Begeny said Reynoldsburg City Council is expected to have an agreement to donate land for the project on the agenda for its Nov. 8 meeting.
“This is significantly different from anything else in the region,” said Bob McElheney, Center Ice Foundation executive vice president. “It’s not really like any ice rink that folks have been to, and I would argue that it’s probably not all that similar to any athletic complex that most folks have been to, either.”
The partnership also includes developer The Daimler Group.
Begeny said he expects the economic impact of the facility to be significant and he believes the project also could help Reynoldsburg schools in establishing hockey and lacrosse teams.
