BOONVILLE — The Gibson Southern freshman football team continued to roll on Thursday, this time improving to 5-1 on the season with a 54-0 demolition of Boonville.

Big plays were the theme of the night for the Titans, who needed just 11 plays on the offensive side of the ball en route to a convincing victory.

Michael Herren scored first for the Titans, exploding for a 90-yard touchdown rush to put the Titans ahead 8-0.

In the next series, Tanner Boyd erupted for a big play of his own, bolting for a 52-yard rushing score on the Titans’ lone third down of the night. And Boyd kept that momentum going, later connecting with Mason Scheller on a 71-yard bomb for a score.

Well ahead 24-0, Jordan Wilson would make a big play for the Titans by forcing the ball free from a Pioneer receiver, scooping it up and returning for a 25-yard score. Wilson’s play was just one of a handful of big stops by a stellar Titan defense.

Herren, Boyd and Gabe Bryant each tacked on second-half scores to put the game well out of reach.

Boyd was 1-of-2 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on just two carries. Herren led the rushing attack with 122 yards on two carries with a pair of scores. Bryant tallied 63 yards on one carry and a touchdown to round out the lethal rushing attack.

Scheller pulled in the only reception of the night for the Titans for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Rose led the defense with five solo tackles, one for loss, and one assist. Shayne Marsh added four solos, two for loss, and one pass attempt batted down at the line. Maxx Wilson tallied four solos, one for loss, and one assist. The Titans travel to Heritage Hills for their next matchup on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

FORT BRANCH — Led by Seth Parsons and Beau Rose, the Fort Branch Jr. Titans handily defeated Mount Vernon on Thursday night in a convincing 44-8 victory.

Parsons and Rose combined for six touchdowns in the victory, and defensively, the Jr. Titans were just as strong.

Rose had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, Preston Adams had eight tackles, Kylin Eads recovered a fumble, and Cam Novotny had an interception.

The Eighth Graders improve to 3-2 with the victory. Both teams will be back in action next Thursday. They’ll return to action next Thursday, as they play host to North Posey, while the Seventh Graders play at Castle.
