Locals and Vegas visitors are discovering and rediscovering indoor-outdoor entertainment venues now that temperatures are dropping. Located on Koval Lane behind MGM Grand, Topgolf Las Vegas is taking advantage of that traffic by making adjustments to its programming and sprawling, multi-floor layout.
“I think [local] people generally stay away from the Strip but we’ve noticed since reopening that people are just looking for outdoor activities that make them feel safe and it seems we’ve been a lot more popular with locals,” said Kim Chute, Topgolf’s senior marketing manager, about the venue that reopened on June 18. “It has a lot to do with our sanitation policies but also just being partially outdoors. We’ve seen a lot of people who know about Topgolf but just haven’t been to Topgolf Las Vegas yet, so it’s been nice to get new visitors.”
Topgolf is not just a driving range. There’s many different games and experiences to be had at the dozens of locations across the country and around the world, and the Vegas version is big on food and drink and live entertainment and also offers two swimming pools in addition to more than 100 climate-controlled hitting bays, five bars and multiple VIP cabanas and private suites for special events.
The swimming and entertainment is on hold for now, but Las Vegans are taking advantage of the 25 percent locals’ discount on gameplay and the free parking.
Topgolf launched extensive safety and sanitation protocols when it reopened but the unique venue was already set up for social distancing. Tees have always been 11 feet away from each other and new dividers have been set up between bays. Chute said clubs and all surfaces in each bay are sanitized between groups, and staff members are temperature-checked and screened before they go to work.
The facility just completed a renovation of the fourth floor which was primarily used as events and meeting space to add 15 additional hitting bays with a different, rooftop experience. The full food and drink menu is available no matter where you’re swinging from.
Topgolf has partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, providing guests the opportunity to add a donation to their check and returning the generosity with a $10 coupon for gameplay on their next visit with a donation of $5 or more. Guests can also upload a photo or video of their swing on Instagram and use the hashtag #SwingPink while tagging @Topgolf and @Susangkomen to enter to win a chance at a $200 gift card.
Coming later this month is a new “Angry Birds” game using Topgolf’s TopTracer technology that tracks your ball and adds it to a digital world. “Your scree looks like the familiar ‘Angry Birds’ game, so you’re looking at the castle you usually try to knock down with the bird and you’re using the ball instead,” Chute said. “Even if you didn’t play ‘Angry Birds’ before, it’s just fun.”
Topgolf Las Vegas opens at 10 a.m. daily and more information can be found at topgolf.com.
