Mumbai Heavy Rains: Heavy rain is likely to continue over the next 24 hours.

New Delhi:

Heavy rains lashing Mumbai overnight led to flooding in many parts of the city, prompting disruption of road and rail traffic.

Rains across the city picked up late on Tuesday evening. There were intense spells across Mumbai for a few hours overnight, an official said.

Public transport services were hit and normal life affected in the financial capital due to heavy downpour and water logging this morning.

Several streets and low-lying areas were waterlogged due to overnight rains, and the road traffic was also badly hit, a civic official said. Some vehicles broke down in the water, affecting the traffic movement, he added.

A Central Railway spokesperson said suburban services were suspended at 5 am on Wednesday following heavy rains along the tracks.

• Several parts of Mumbai received heavy rainfall on Tuesday night leading to flooding in some areas including Sion and Goregaon.
• Passengers were stranded at Sion railway station in Mumbai due to waterlogging.
• According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), suburban Mumbai witnessed actual rainfall of 23.4 mm on Tuesday, a departure of 129 per cent from the normal rainfall.
• Suburban rail services on Central Railway have been affected due to continuous heavy rains in several parts of Mumbai.
• Services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Thane/Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Vashi have been suspended.
• Also, long-distance special trains are being rescheduled.
