Carlisle School District will be shutting down in-person learning and all extra-curricular activities for the week.

According to a press release, obtained by Jake Adams of the Carlisle Sentinel and confirmed by Carlisle athletic director George Null, the school had three positive tests and two more presumed positive cases of the coronavirus within the school.

The Thundering Herd had several athletic events planned for the week, including its season-opener for football against Exeter Township.

“Our school is going to be shut down from Wednesday through Sunday and everything will be postponed extra-curricular-wise,” Null told PennLive.

In addition to the team’s first game for football, the boys and girls soccer teams were each expected to open up their seasons against Central Dauphin on Saturday. There was also three trips for the girls tennis team scheduled and a matchup of the Keystone Division coming for golf on Wednesday.

Null said the school does not know yet if it will be able to reschedule the matchups or if they will be canceled.

Several other schools in the conference have been impacted by positive coronavirus cases in its community. Big Spring, Middletown and Shippensburg all had to put practices on hold before the season began due to positive tests. Harrisburg and Milton Hershey have both opted out of the fall sports season began due to concern for the virus.

Two other games in the Mid-Penn have already been impacted this week by the coronavirus. CD East was scheduled to open its season against Governor Mifflin before Governor Mifflin’s school district announced it would be shut down for a week due to a positive test. Lower Dauphin postponed its season opener against Cedar Cliff, saying that a Falcons player had possibly been exposed to someone else who tested positive.
