PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s defense got strong performances from the usual suspects on Saturday, as Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver combined for 4.5 sacks and Jason Pinnock and Damar Hamlin each had interceptions as the Panthers’ defense held Louisville in check for 60 minutes in a 23-20 victory.
But it wasn’t just the upperclassmen that drew attention to themselves. Marquis Williams had a big interception. It was the pressure of Calijah Kancey that forced Louisville quarterback Micale Cunningham’s throw that Pinnock intercepted.
Jones said he thinks the defense has established a culture that is going to allow it to remain successful for a long time.
“We hold everybody to the same standard,” Jones said. “No matter if you’re young or old, we expect you to have your fundamentals down, your technique down, so when it’s time for you number to be called, you can step in and play.”
Here’s more from Jones, Jason Pinnock, Kenny Pickett and Alex Kessman:
