Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna entered the blended doubles semi-finals on the Australian Open on Tuesday after receiving a walkover within the quarter-finals.

The Indian pair, which hasn’t dropped a set within the ongoing event but, was to play Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and Spain’s David Vega Hernandez.

They await the winner of the quarter-final between third seeds Desirae Krawczyk-Neal Skupski and Taylor Townsend-Jamie Murray.

Earlier, the Indian duo superior to the quarter-finals, beating the Uruguay-Japanese pair of Ariel Behar-Makoto Ninomiya 6-4, 7-6(11-9) within the second spherical on Monday evening.

The Australian Open is 36-year-old Mirza’s final Grand Slam marketing campaign. The six-time Grand Slam doubles champion (three girls’s and three blended) will retire later this season after collaborating within the WTA Dubai Championships in February.

The Indian pair began off properly of their second spherical match, scoring their first service break early.

However, Behar-Ninomiya broke again to stage at 2-2.

Mirza-Bopanna broke once more to go forward, take management of the set and win it 6-4.

The scores ran shut within the second set. At 3-3 Mirza-Bopanna effected a break, solely to see the Uruguay-Japanese pair return it to stage at 4-4 and take the tie to the tie-breaker.

The Indians held their nerve thereafter to prevail after an hour 17 minutes and arrange a gathering with the Latvian and Spanish pair of Ostapenko and Hernandez within the final 8 stage.

Bopanna, partnering Mathew Ebden, made a primary spherical exit within the males’s doubles, whereas Mirza and her Kazkah associate Anna Danilina misplaced within the second spherical of the ladies’s doubles.
