A pair of biometrics companies will participate in the 3rd annual “TIPS X beSUCCESS Korean Startup Showcase” later this month with hopes to follow in the footsteps of several tech unicorns that have emerged from the South Korean-government sponsored event, according to a KoreaTechDesk report.

Aiet Co. Ltd. has developed iris recognition devices for access control with a proprietary iris algorithm, modules for iris, object, and facial recognition, and reference design kits (RDKs). Devices made by the company include a standard biometric access control scanner and an advanced scanner for CCTV-style deployments.

Aiet is also developing a device for scanning users at a distance, with Distance Object Scanning (DOS) technology for recognizing moving objects from afar.

Together with parent company Commax, Aiet is also developing a walk-through smart gate with iris and voice recognition for access control.

Creative Value Technology (CVT), which has developed a biometric facial recognition device for access control, time and attendance, and payments is the other among 11 companies selected for participation in the showcase.

CVT has completed a proof of concept for a facial recognition elevator control solution, and is working on an automated visitor registration solution, as well as a facial biometrics-enabled doorbell, according to a KoreaTechDesk profile. The latter is planned to be part of a smart home solution launching next year with a construction company, CVT says.

Major alumni successes from the incubator program include Coupang, which KoreaTechDesk calls “the Amazon of Korea,” food delivery platform Woowa Brothers, and financial services app Toss.

The Tips X beSUCCESS Korean Startup Showcase will be held online on September 23 and 24. The previous years’ events were held in San Francisco and Palo Alto.
