NEW DELHI, March 13 (Reuters) – India’s Supreme Court on Monday stated a five-judge bench will begin listening to ultimate arguments over granting authorized recognition to same-sex marriages on April 18, proceedings of which might be live-streamed on its web site and Youtube.

The case is being seen as a milestone occasion for LGBT rights within the nation. India’s high court docket decriminalised homosexuality in 2018 by scrapping a colonial-era ban on homosexual intercourse.

But the federal government stated it opposes recognising same-sex marriage and urged the Supreme Court to reject challenges to the present authorized framework lodged by LGBT {couples}.
