The Northeast-10 Conference Council of Presidents announced Wednesday that its fall 2020 schedule, which the NE-10 suspended last July and hoped to play this spring, has been canceled due to the ongoing public health situation. The decision impacts Assumption, an NE-10 member, and its football, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and volleyball teams.

“I would like to thank our athletics staff, coaches and student-athletes for their continued hard work and dedication throughout this difficult time,” Assumption director of athletics Christine Lowthert said. “The ways they have come together and supported one another over the past several months is inspiring, and truly shows what it means to be a Greyhound. We will continue to move forward together as we strive to find ways to safely compete in the coming months.”

Student-athletes continue to be allowed to practice, train and participate in team activities providing health and safety protocols are followed.

Assumption is collaborating with colleges and universities in the Worcester area to potentially schedule limited competition for the fall teams, if safe to do so, Assumption President Francesco Cesareo said.

“Assumption University will continue to explore opportunities for meaningful athletic competition for all our student-athletes,” Cesareo said.

In December, the NE-10 canceled winter sports competitions.

Assumption and the NE-10 remain committed to supporting a return to play for the conference’s 10 spring sports, while continuing to monitor health and safety guidelines.
