Pune: Traffic jam as cops conduct rehearsal for PM’s convoy

Huge traffic jams were seen on Karve road, Law College road and Senapati Bapat road for a few hours on Saturday morning as the city police carried out a rehearsal for the passage of the convoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the city on Sunday for inauguration of the Pune Metro rail project.

Police teams deployed for the rehearsal stopped the vehicles on certain locations on Karve road, Paud road and diverted them on alternative routes. It led to severe traffic jams on Karve road and Deccan area, causing inconvenience to residents.
Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta said, “There were traffic issues in some areas because of the rehearsal for the passage of the convoy of VVIP on Sunday.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame said, “We conducted a rehearsal for the systems that we have put in place for the passage of the convoy. For this, the traffic had to be stopped for a while at some places and led to jams. We made all the efforts to ensure that the citizens are least inconvenienced.”

Meanwhile, portions of Karve road and Paud road will be kept closed for traffic between 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Rahul Shrirame has issued orders in this regard. The traffic on these roads will be diverted on alternative routes for some time. As per orders of DCP Shrirame, since the main function of the PM will be held on the Garware College to Anand Nagar Metro junction, vehicles will not be allowed on the stretch between Khandoji Baba Chowk and Shivtirth Nagar from 10 am to 2 pm.
