Tam High’s Matteo Bellisimo announced on Twitter over the weekend he has committed to continuing his baseball career at St. Mary’s University next season.

“I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for all the support, I’m proud to be an SMC Gael and will continue to work hard,” Bellisimo wrote.

Bellisimo had 21 hits in 20 games last season, hitting .333 for the Red-tailed Hawks. Bellisimo lead the team in RBIs (27) and tied for team-high honors in home runs (4).

Tam went 19-1 and 10-0 against MCAL opponents during last year’s shortened campaign.

Hall of Famers

Although the Marin Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame ceremony has been postponed for two years due to the pandemic, an unofficial ceremony to honor two members of the 1977 National Champion Redwood High baseball team is being organized for Nov. 6.

Steve Compagno and Jim Jones will be celebrated at an event emceed by teammate Steven Travers at 5 p.m. at Creekside Pizza and Taproom.

There will a general question-and-answer session with both Hall of Famers, followed by a “20 questions with number 20” segment conducted by veteran journalist Matt Morrison with legendary Redwood baseball coach Al Endriss.

Cost for the event is $35 which includes pizza, pasta and salad. Bar service is available. RSVP to Steven Travers at USCSTEVE1@aol.com and pay at the door prior to entrance.

Women’s volleyball

Former Tam High standout Olivia Smith was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference volleyball offensive athlete of the week after leading Smith College to a 3-0 record.

Smith, a freshman, had 39 kills, 16 digs and four aces as Smith defeated New England College, Emerson and Mitchell. Smith posted a career-high 19 kills against New England and had 10 kills in each of the other two wins.

Field hockey

Samantha Haan scored twice and Eleanor Titcombe added the other as Redwood remained unbeaten following a 3-0 win against Lick-Wilmerding on Monday.

Girls tennis

Anna Lardner remained unbeaten in MCAL play this season, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Carly Amborn. Branson won three singles matches and swept the doubles to secure a 6-1 victory.

Ana Fatjo had the lone win for the Peregrine Falcons, defeating Anna Rende, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

• Lardner, Rende, Audrey Gilmor and Mirabel Arlander swept the singles matches as Branson rolled to a 6-1 victory against Marin Catholic on Monday. Noemi Jackovics and Katherine Compagno won at No. 2 doubles for MC.
• Emily Bandouveres picked up a win at No. 2 singles to help lead Novato to a 5-2 victory against Terra Linda on Monday. En-Ya Zhang topped Payton Grafeld at No. 1 singles to secure one of the two wins for TL.
• Tam raced out to a 6-0 lead against Redwood on Monday night before darkness suspended play with the No. 1 singles players still on the court.
• The Giants bounced back on Tuesday, picking up a 7-0 win against San Rafael on senior day. Sonya Cowan and Livia Klompus picked up straight-set wins at the top two singles spots.

College cross country

Dominican’s Julianna Mendez was named the PacWest women’s cross country runner of the week for the third time this season. Mendez finished second at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational 6K Open on Saturday.
