SPRINGFIELD — City officials on Wednesday announced the specific plans and various funding sources for an estimated $5.7 million improvement project at an athletics field in Sixteen Acres for various sports and recreational use.

In a news release, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said he has authorized key department heads to align local funding for the project, coupled with various other public and private fund sources.

Sarno said the project is “desperately needed.”
