Vaishno Devi stampede: The cops have launched a rescue operation. The exact cause of the stampede is not known yet.
A stampede took place at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra early on Saturday morning, news agency ANI reported quoting Jammu and Kashmir Police. Some people have sustained injuries in the incident and have been rushed to Naraina hospital, according to the police.
Dr Gopal Dutt, block medical officer at the community health centre said that there are some casualties too but the number is not confirmed yet.

Hindustan Times’ sister publication Livehindustan reported that a large number of pilgrims had reached the shrine for darshan on the first day of the New Year.
The holy cave shrine atop Trikuta hills in Katra is among the most revered pilgrimage sites in the country.
The cave shrine is situated at an altitude of 5,200 ft in Reasi district and generally attracts close to a million devotees every year.
The operations of the pilgrimage site are managed by Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which provides battery car and ropeway services to the pilgrims to reach the top of Trikuta Hills for darshan.
