Thailand Open: Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to Indonesian duo of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the second round to crash out of the tournament.

India’s top-ranked men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed of the Thailand Open after a second-round defeat against the Indonesian duo of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan on Thursday.

In a match that lasted for 33 minutes, the Indian duo tried their best to stay in the match with a late challenge but, Ahsan and Setiawan dictated the play at will with their quick returns, dominant match play.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty started well, but couldn’t hold on to their lead as Ahsan, Setiawan eased their way to win the first game 21-19 with some smart badminton and powerful strokes.

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy had fought back after losing a tightly contested first set and won over the South Korean pair Kim Gi Jung and Lee Yong Dae 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 in 1 hour and 6 minutes.

Earlier on Wednesday, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth sailed into the second round. Saina will take on Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan while Srikanth will face Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jial.
