Senapati, Oct 17 : The 35th edition of NMSYO Annual Sports Meet 2021 hosted by Maram Mathak Sagai Unit came to a close today.
The valedictory ceremony cum prize distribution programme of the sports meet was graced by Thomas Luba L, Ex-Deputy Chairman (Finance), ADC, Senapati as the chief guest; L Ela-a Talu, Dy Director, Social Welfare (ICDS), Govt of Manipur as the guest of honour and Pungdi P Celestine, general secretary, Maram Union as the special guest respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Pungdi P Celestine remembered the pioneers and founders of NMSYO for enabling to take forward the 35th edition of annual Sports’ Meet. He appreciated the organizer for bringing people together from far and near and providing the privilege to revisit ancestral Maram Khullen Village through the sports meet.
While recalling that Maram Khullen forefathers have set a legacy by safeguarding and upholding cultures and traditions, the responsibility now lies on the present generation to take forward that legacy.
L Ela-a Talu also thanked the organizers for giving women the platform to grace the function as guest of honour. Citing successful women sportspersons like Mary Kom and Mirabai Chanu, she also urged the gathering to give privileges to women in any competition, to do away with past practices of overlooking women in a society and give equal treatment to girls as to that of boys.
Thomas Luba L in the meantime stated that the present generation living elsewhere has been dispersed from the original Maram Khullen Village and called upon other Maram villages to follow the leadership of Maram Khullen village in upholding the traditions and cultures. He also expressed regret that no professional player can be produced despite organising the event for 35 years and asked young players to have perseverance, dedication and maintain good habits to become professional players in near future.
Khullakpa Sagei bagged the Championship in women’s volleyball participated by 18 teams while Haikunglong bagged the runner’s up title.
In the Men’s volleyball, Mathak Sagei emerged champions while Khullakpa Sagei earned the runner’s up title.
Makha Sagei finished men’s football champions while Kavanam bagged the runner’s up spot.
