The William F. Keller Lodge No. 107/Alpena Area Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is our local police service group which represents the four-county area of Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle and Montmorency counties.
Their Lodge had this event postponed due to the coronavirus but it has now been approved to be held. The “FOP Night” (formerly The Policeman’s Ball) will be at the APlex, on Saturday, Sept. 26.
This year will feature the comedian Steve Iott and tribute artists Elvis and Johnny Cash. It will be quite a show. The FOP with the assistance of the APlex has been able to keep the price to $10 per person, which includes entry to the show, hors’deouvres, pizza late night, door prizes, and a cash bar. This is a casual evening out. All State of Michigan Health Department mandates will be adhered to.
The Lodge’s Secretary Don Swider has advised that the Lodge obtained their Charter in 1956 and has been a part of the community ever since then. The Lodge is comprised of 115 law enforcement officers, who are either active or retired members, as well as 56 associate members, from their four-county service area.
The FOP either fully sponsors or donates to their established local youth sporting teams and Alpena Community College scholarship programs. Their main budgeted items are for the continuation of their longstanding sponsorship of FOP sports teams, with six baseball/softball teams, five soccer teams, a hockey team, donations to Alpena figure and speed skating programs, youth bowling and golf outings, three ACC college scholarships and an array of other worthwhile local community projects.
