MLS today released the final nine games of the regular season for Sporting Kansas City and the rest of the league’s teams as they close out the 2020 season. Sporting’s final nine games will see them play a few new opponents but also some that they’ve seen a few times already this season.

Sporting have two more games that were previously announced, tomorrow night against Orlando City and Sunday the 27th at the Colorado Rapids. After that the season finishes as follows.

7:00pm Saturday, October 3rd at Houston Dynamo

7:30pm Wednesday, October 7th vs Chicago Fire

6:30pm Sunday, October 11th vs Nashville SC

7:30pm Wednesday, October 14th at FC Dallas

2:30pm Saturday, October 17th at Chicago Fire

7:30pm Saturday, Otober 24th vs Colorado Rapids

6:30pm Wednesday, October 28th at FC Cincinnati

6:30pm Sunday, November 1st vs Minnesota United

5:30pm Sunday, November 8th at Real Salt Lake.

It will continue to be a tight schedule for Sporting and the rest of the MLS teams. For Sporting, eight of those nine games will take place over a 30 day stretch giving Kansas City just under four days of rest between games most weeks. Kansas City will see a couple new opponents over this stretch of nine games, playing Chicago (twice), Nashville, and Cincinnati for the first time this season and Salt Lake for only the second. The other four games though will see Kansas City play Houston, Colorado, and Minnesota for the fourth time each this season, and Dallas for the third time. It’ll bring back memories of the early years of the league when Kansas City would play many teams four to five times a season. Four of KC’s final nine are at home against Chicago, Nashville, Colorado, and Minnesota. The five road games include a trip to Salt Lake for Decision Day on November 8th.

With the full schedule out, Sporting play just 10 of the league’s 25 other teams in this regular season effected greatly by the COVID-19 pandemic (11 including the knockout round of the MLS is Back Tournament). For the first time in the club’s history they will not play a game against the LA Galaxy, the Columbus Crew, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, and DC United. The later two KC were not on KC’s original 34 game schedule. Sporting also won’t play the likes of the Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, and Los Angeles FC this season.
