Phase two of the re-opening of Fife’s sports and leisure centres is about to begtin.

A host of facilities will be back in operation on Monday after six months in lockdown.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust will welcome customers back to East Sands Leisure Centre, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre and Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre on September 28.

They join flagship centres in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Dunfermline which opened in mid-September after exactly 180 days in lockdown.

The trust which runs the facilities said there had been a positive response to their return.

Over 6,800 attendances have been recorded at the flagship centres, and the trust said that 97 per cent were satisfied with the social distancing and health and safety measures in place. Staff were given 100 per cent feedback for their knowledge of the safety measures.

Emma Walker, chief executive, said: “We’ve had a fantastic reaction from customers following the re-opening of four of our facilities – feedback has shown that users are confident in the health and safety measures that are in place and that measures are easy to follow.

“ Staff are looking forward to getting back into centres and welcoming back our customers.”

Phased three of the return from lockdown will see Duloch Leisure Centre, Cupar Leisure Centre, Bowhill Swimming Pool and Waterstone Crook Leisure Centre open on Monday, October 12.

The final return will be the Beacon Leisure Centre, Burntisland, on Monday, October 26.
