Firefighters were scrambled to tackle the ensuing blaze near Ghod Dhod road.
The explosions rattled houses within the blast radius, and users reported hearing the explosion up to 20km away.
All plants near the Hariza facility are reported to have been shut down as a precaution.
Gas valves at Surat airport and nearby villages Abhva and Chorasi have been cut off, according to locals.
Doctors advised social media users near the blaze to wear a wet cloth mask to prevent inhaling potentially harmful smoke.
