Successfully navigating beauty, fashion and entertainment requires the right combination of knowledge, skills and experience. Welcome to business 2.0 where the complexity and resources required today are a delicate balancing act for the best of the best. More to the point, to be a creative influencer today in the entertainment industry, one is required to foster leadership. Developing oneself as a creative artist today is actively looking toward the future and finding something better and brighter to convey to your audience.
For example, in the beauty, and fashion industry, empirical evidence shows entertainment can be beneficial to an audience. It is important to understand the difference between the three respective disciplines. In some mysterious way we cannot fully comprehend, the social media influencer, the creator of all things we like, personally identifying with us.
Kristen Rose – Model, Actress and Influencer was ranked no.111 on IMDb’s Hot Actresses and Beyond list and has worked with high profile beauty brands including a commercial for Sephora for skincare brand Murad, and many more. In addition, she’s also an aspiring fashion icon with a passion for supercars and living life in the fast lane.
Rose is creating waves in the entertainment industry and has become a sought after talent. Born in Quezon City, Philippines, and raised in Houston, Texas, the Filipino-American aspired to become an actress and fashion icon from a very young age.
I recently has the privilege to speak with model, actress and style influencer Kristen Rose about how being in this industry has definitely allowed her to get ahead of the fashion curve and perhaps even ahead of trends, how beauty and fashion stylists put together looks and pieces that are very important to the entertainment industry and brand building and why she believes Olivier Rousteing’s use of unconventional materials at the french design house Balmain is redefining the standards of fashion!
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes about your personal style, the importance of style to you, and how it relates to your brand as an Actress and Influencer?
Kristen Rose: My personal style has always been a way for me to express myself and has definitely evolved over the past few years throughout my career. It’s always been important for me to feel good and look good in what I wear. I’ve found that even when I’m in comfortable lounge wear or basic matching workout sets, I like to add on a few different pieces that bring out my own unique personal style. As an actress/ model Influencer, I’m always exposed to cutting edge fashion that help me keep up with the latest trends. I get to work with a range of different styles and brands that show me new concepts and ways of bringing pieces together. Being in this industry has definitely allowed me to get ahead of the fashion curve and perhaps even ahead of trends in a sense when it comes to fashion and shaping my personal style.
Joseph DeAcetis: In your words, how do fashion and the entertainment industry influence one another?
Kristen Rose: Having worked with different designers and stylists on set, I’ve learned to pick up on new styles of fashion ideas and infuse that with my own personal style. Whether it’s a photoshoot, red carpet event, or a brand campaign, having a strong fashion sense is very important to execute a successful outcome. Stylists and designers who put together pieces and outfits are very important to the entertainment industry. They work closely with influential people, with a lot visibility that consumers see, then adopt those trends which shape the modern fashion trends and styles of today.
Joseph DeAcetis: Who is your favorite designer or brand? why?
Kristen Rose: I would say my favorite designer is Olivier Rousteing. His work with Balmain has always captured my attention with their unique, outspoken pieces that stand out in the fashion industry. His work is innovative and breaks the rules of fashion. He thinks outside the box and uses his creativity which has revitalized the modern meaning of fashion. I find Olivier Rousteing’s use of unconventional materials like the ‘glossy latex look’ combined with sharp edged shoulders to create a cool, new look, is redefining the standards of fashion. His edgy designs and glamorous pieces, combine both masculinity and femininity giving a new sense of freedom in the fashion world. Personally, I love that Olivier stands for diversity in the Fashion industry. As a mixed Asian- American in Hollywood, I identify with his mission to promote diversity in the fashion industry.
Joseph DeAcetis: How has your workflow changed during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Kristen Rose: A lot of changes due to the pandemic has affected my work life in the entertainment industry. It’s been a really weird year and lots of changes in my work dynamic. The biggest hit that was definitely affected the most would be my acting jobs and commercials. Since March of this year, all work on sets in Hollywood have been cancelled and called off. Auditions took a long pause but quickly switched to online submissions which I found wasn’t so bad. The only thing with that is even with booking a role or job, there’s no set date to begin filming due to COVID restrictions that are set in place. As far as being a model/ Influencer, not much has changed aside from working remotely from home. I’ve still been able to collaborate and work with many brands. The only difference being is that I have my own shoot at home rather than going to set for a photoshoot with a professional photographer. I’ve actually had more opportunities working with new brands over the pandemic as a lot of stores and brands have had to switch over to solely an online presence.
Joseph DeAcetis: How are you using your platform and influence during this time to create a social impact?
Kristen Rose: It has been a crazy year and a lot has been happening, but I try to keep a positive note on my platform to continue and encourage others to see that this time is only temporary. I use my platform to promote brands who recognize diversity and that have the same values and ethics I align myself with. Aside from my collaborations and working with different brands, I think now more than ever, it has been very important to bring awareness through social media. During this time, keeping up to date with everything going on around us and standing for what is right has been something I encourage my audience to do.
Joseph DeAcetis: Who is your style icon?
Kristen Rose: My style Icons are a mix of Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, and Selena Gomez.
Joseph DeAcetis: Tell Forbes about your upcoming projects and the process of preparing for a role.
Kristen Rose: With COVID and the pandemic still having a huge effect in the industry, all my upcoming projects have been currently put on hold until further notice. My process for preparing for a role consists of being locked in my room, isolated and learning each and every detail about my character. It’s really fun for me to embody this whole new person and tell a story through my characters perspective. I take my time to dissect each aspect of my character and get to know what she likes/ dislikes, and what motives she carries throughout the film.
Joseph DeAcetis: How would you describe your daily street style?
Kristen Rose: Lately, I gravitate towards high waisted sweatpants or high waisted mom jeans paired with a crop top. I like staying comfortable yet stylish and having a put together look that can easily be turned cool if accessorized right.
Joseph DeAcetis: What other actors would you love to work with and why?
Kristen Rose: I would love to work with Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie, Mindy Kaling, Angelina Jolie, and of course Meryl Streep. These women empower other women and that is the reason I am in this business. A strong female lead is important and these women are the reason young actresses like myself have confidence to persevere through adversity.
Joseph DeAcetis: With fashion being such a major part of films, what character would be your dream role to play based on style?
Kristen Rose: Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada. The major change in her character’s fashion sense as well as her character arc in the film, would be a role I’d love to play.
Joseph DeAcetis: What era inspires your personal style in terms of fashion statements?
Kristen Rose: The late 80’s/ early 90’s is where I pull a lot of my inspiration from. One of my favorite brands, Guess, introduced one of the first high waisted denims that shaped the 80’s fashion world. Their campaigns showed off sex appeal and body positivity empowering women early on, before it was a widely accepted ideal. A lot of my styles today consist of high waisted pants and cropped tops. I find that the snatched silhouette with vintage crop tops from the 80’s/ 90’s, is so flattering for all women and has greatly influenced my personal style today.
