If you notice any of the above symptoms or a combination of symptoms, you should immediately rush to the doctor. Urine sample, physical examination and your child’s medical history might be needed for the diagnosis.

The sample will be tested in the lab for germs in it. They might do a culture test as well, where they place the urine in a dish and check what kind of bacteria grows in it. This helps your doctor find the exact germ that caused the infection and the right medicine to treat it.

If your child has had a few UTIs, your doctor might even recommend you to go to a nephrologist (kidney specialist). The doctor might ask you to get some scans to know if there is a problem in the urinary tract.
