The Class 4A 8th-ranked West Delaware Hawks volleyball team improved their record to 21-6 by going 3-0 at the Cedar Falls Invitational on Saturday. WD downed Fort Dodge and Waterloo Columbus 2-1 and Waterloo West 2-0. The Hawks have won 11 matches in a row in the past two weeks, they’ll entertain Class 3A second-rated Mount Vernon at home inside Seedorff Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
In other coverage area volleyball results from Saturday-
Maquoketa Valley had a tough day at the Denver Tournament. The Wildcats went 0-5, losing to Sumner-Fredericksburg, Denver, Starmont and Beckman 2-0 and Tripoli 2-1.
Starmont went 1-4. Losing to Sumner-Fred, Denver and Beckman 2-0 and Tripoli 2-1.
Beckman finished with a mark of 3-2 with wins over Starmont, Tripoli and Maq. Valley 2-0. They fell to Sumner-Fred 2-0 and Denver 2-1.
Monticello hosted their own Invite and went 2-2. The Panthers scored W’s over Mid-Prairie and Northeast 2-0, lost to Union Community 2-0 and Maquoketa 2-1.
Ed-Co went 2-1 at the North Cedar Tourney hosted by Springville. The Vikings went 2-0 with wins over Tipton and Durant while losing to Springville 2-0.
Anamosa went 3-0 at the Bellevue Marquette Tournament, beating Cedar Valley Christian, Marquette and Bellevue all 2-0.
CROSS COUNTRY-
Independence hosted their annual Invitational Saturday morning. On the varsity boys side, Maquoketa Valley won it with 47 points out of seven teams who placed. Indee was 6th with 145 points, Ed-Co was 7th with 157.
The girls varsity race was won by Oelwein with 34 points. Indee was third out of four teams with 62.
