Gov. Mifflin, Wyomissing maintain lofty state rankings in football

Gov. Mifflin and Wyomissing maintained their lofty rankings and Berks Catholic slipped three spots after its first loss in the pennlive.com state football rankings.

The Mustangs remained No. 6 in Class 5A despite being idle after the school was shut down due to COVID-19 and they were forced to cancel their game vs. C.D. East.

The Spartans remained No. 2 in Class 3A after a 49-9 win over Fleetwood.

The Saints fell to No. 6 in Class 4A after a 35-34, double-overtime loss at Cedar Cliff, which moved into the Class 5A rankings at No. 10.

Exeter is listed as one of three teams to watch in Class 5A for the first time this season.

North Allegheny vaulted from No. 5 to No. 1 in Class 6A after beating Pittsburgh Central Catholic, last week’s No. 1, 35-21. Central Catholic landed at No. 3.

All of the other top-ranked teams remained in place: Pine-Richland in 5A, Thomas Jefferson in 4A, Central Valley in 3A, Southern Columbia in 2A and Clairton in 1A.

Wyomissing is one of two District 3 teams ranked in 3A; Middletown is No. 5.

Mifflin is one of three District 3 teams ranked in 5A, along with No. 3 Warwick and Cedar Cliff.

Central Dauphin, at No. 2, is the only District 3 team ranked in Class 6A.
