World Number one Novak Djokovic equaled his arch-rival Roger Federer’s record on Thursday by winning his 70th match at Roland Garros and simultaneously reserved his spot in the third round of French Open 2020. And with another win on the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Novak will be pushing Roger down to the third spot and take the second place on the list players with the most number of wins at Roland Garros.

On Thursday, the Serbian ace took 83 minutes to sweep aside Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, and dropped just seven points in the opening set.

“I agree 100% with him” – Novak Djokovic on Rafael Nadal’s underarm serve opinion

Post his smooth win in the second round in Paris, Novak reflected on the diminished tactic of tennis, the underarm serve. On Wednesday, his nemesis Rafael Nadal had faced one of those during his second round encounter against Mackenzie McDonald. Rafa had later stated that it’s not at all disrespectful, rather an excellent tactic.

Having heard Rafa’s words, Novak completely agrees with everything the Spaniard said.

“I saw what Nadal said about it, and I agree 100% with him. So I don’t want to repeat his statement. If you see his statement, I agree with every word.”

Novak is eyeing to narrow down the Major count gap between him and Rafa and Roger, while the ‘King of Clay’ Rafa is aiming to equal Federer’s record of total Grand Slam titles by reaching Major number 20 on the Parisian terre battue.

Up next, Novak Djokovic is will be taking on Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan in the third round of French Open 2020. Galan had straight-set victories in the qualifiers and had dismissed Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie in five sets in the first round. Following his uphill battle in the opening round, he steamrolled over USA’s Tennys Sandgren in three sets in the second round.
