CARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves continued to roll here Thursday night in a 3-0 (25-3, 25-14, 25-16) non-conference volleyball victory over the Mid Peninsula Wolverines.

“We had another good serving night,” said Wolves’ coach Steve Kedsch. “As a team, we had only two serving errors tonight. We had a lot of long volleys in the first set and were fortunate enough to score off those.”

In the second set, the Wolves took a 3-2 lead on a kill by senior Liana Blahnik.

The Wolves, behind a 10-point service run by junior Mary Sivula, then extended their lead to 13-2 before Mid Pen got a sideout.

“For some reason, teams are struggling with her serves, and we’re able to run our offense off that,” said Kedsch. “Mid Pen tried to slow our offense down, but we were able to make an adjustment.”

Mid Pen took a 4-3 lead on a kill by senior Landry Koski in the third set.

C-N, however, regained the lead on a Mid Pen hitting error before extending its lead to 9-4.

The Wolverines were still within 13-8 prior to a serving miscue before the Wolves began to pull away.

“This is a tough loss,” said Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser. “There were some long volleys, but hitting wasn’t in our favor at all tonight. Carney-Nadeau is fundamentally strong.

“They were hitting the ball hard. We’re definitely in a slump, and we need to get out of that.”

Sivula was 27-for-27 serving, and Blahnik finished 21-for-21.

Blahnik recorded 12 kills and three blocks. Senior Taylor Kedsch collected 12 kills and five digs. Sivula had five aces. Senior Haley Ernest tallied 27 assists and seven digs, and classmate Mackenzie Walcher had 13 digs.

“Mary’s serving enabled us to pull away in the second set, and Liana served real well,” said coach Kedsch. “Taylor had some nice cross-court passes and was very consistent again tonight.”

Mid Pen junior Landry Koski had six kills and six digs. Senior Allyson Lancour added four kills and seven digs. Classmate Daisy Englund recorded seven assists and sophomore Kora Prater had 10 digs.

“Landry and Allyson had some nice kills, and Daisy had a couple nice blocks,” said Kayser.

C-N, which also won the jayvee match (25-16, 25-15), hosts Munising Tuesday. Mid Pen hosts Stephenson Tuesday.
