It could be a month to remember for Exeter Chiefs fans who are assured of their place in the Premiership play-offs as well as their place in the European Cup final in October.

Rob Baxter’s men will be hot favourites to win their first league title since 2017 but will need to navigate any potential banana-skins lurking in the play-offs first.

Four sides remain in contention for the final three places in the play-offs with Bristol, Sale, Bath and Wasps taking it to the wire ahead of the climactic Round 22 this weekend.

Pay-per-view MMA returns to BT Sport Box Office with a monster fight card exclusively live from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

The headline tilt sees the return of pound-for-pound contender and reigning undisputed lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov, taking on interim champion Justin Gaethje in an unmissable world title showdown.

Fighting for the first time since losing his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, to the pandemic, Khabib is sure to endure one of the toughest nights of his career against a man whom many believe could be his kryptonite.

Despite beating Tony Ferguson handily in one of the most entertaining fights of the year to book his shot at the title, Gaethje will enter the Octagon as the underdog at UFC 245 but the king of violence will pay no mind to the odds on his quest to secure the undisputed belt.

Elsewhere on the card, Robert Whittaker will face Jared Cannonier in a middleweight co-main event that could have huge ramifications on the 185lb landscape.

Whittaker will be desperate to secure a rematch with the successor to his middleweight throne, Israel Adesanya, while Alaskan native Cannonier has already been promised a shot at the belt next – if he can triumph over ‘The Reaper’ on Fight Island.

Heavyweights Alexander Volkov and Walt Harris will go to war, with Islam Makhachev facing Rafael dos Anjos, Cynthia Calvillo taking on Lauren Murphy and Magmoed Ankaev versus Ion Cutelba rounding off the bumper six-fight main card.

MotoGP – throughout October

One of the most entertaining and wide-open MotoGP seasons continues with three races throughout October for fans to sink their teeth into.

Fabio Quartararo’s dramatic victory at the Catalonia GP last time out means he narrowly leads the championship standings by eight points from Spanish rival Joan Mir.

Experienced Yamaha star Maverick Vinales lies in third while one of the pre-season favourites Andrea Dovizioso sits in fourth, 24 points off the lead.

So it’s all to play for with half of the six races remaining taking place over the next 31 days, beginning in France on Sunday 11 October at the Bugatti Circuit.

A week later, the tour heads to Spain for a two-week tenure at the Ciudad del Motor de Aragon in one of the quirks of this modified 2020 season.

Frank Warren’s Queensberry Boxing continues with a thoroughly entertaining Fight Night to look forward to on October 10.

World title hopeful Liam Williams headlines the card, making his first return to action post-lockdown in a potentially tricky British middleweight title defence against mandatory challenger Andrew Robinson.

Welshman Williams has aspirations beyond these shores over the next 12 months but knows he must not take his eye of the ball if he is to keep hold of his position as mandatory challenger to the WBO champion Demetrius Andrade.

However, the 28-year-old sent his opponent Robinson a chilling warning ahead of their date with destiny later this month, adding: “I am obviously very, very confident and I know I will make a good job of him because I am training hard and I will turn up like I do for every other fight having left no stone unturned,” said the Welshman.

“I don’t think he is on my level but I am definitely not taking him lightly and I will approach the fight the way I do the others and that is with bad intentions.

“He is my mandatory and I think it is a dangerous fight because I think he could possibly get hurt. The referee and his team need to be careful and need to be looking after his health and interests because I genuinely think I could damage him.

In the co-main event, fellow British champion Anthony Cacace puts his Lonsdale belt on the line against Commonwealth king JJ Metcalf while heavyweight prospect Nathan Gorman faces Ghanaian slugger Richard Lartey.
