LINCOLN–Isaac Hein made the play of the game.
Again.
Rogers City’s quarterback scored on a five-yard run on 4th-and-5 in overtime to help the Rogers City football team defeat Alcona 18-12 on Friday.
It marked the second time in as many meetings between the two teams that the game came down to the last play. Two weeks ago Hein found Matt Newhouse for a 21-yard pass as time expired to give the Hurons (2-1) a 24-18 win at home.
Hein made a much-needed play late in the game to force overtime, scoring on an 80-yard kickoff return to tie the game 12-12 with 8:31 left in regulation.
He also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Cook late in the second quarter to tie the game 6-6.
Alcona (0-3) held the lead two different times, but couldn’t hold on at the end and came up short in overtime.
Zach Stephenson threw a 25-yard touchdown to Jacob Sytek for an Alcona touchdown midway through the second quarter and added a touchdown on a three-yard sneak with 8:47 left in the fourth quarter.
Stephenson had 69 yards on 15 carries and Gavin Walker had 70 yards on 25 carries
