WILLEMSTAD – Interest group for musicians AMAK recently sent two letters to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath. They request to meet with the government to find a solution for the nightlife in Curaçao. According to the organization, that’s as good as dead at the moment.

In the letters, AMAK says it has recently received many telephone calls and WhatsApp messages from DJs, restaurant employees, café owners and musicians, calling for them to join forces. The idea arose to organize a large event to draw attention to the precarious situation of the nightlife in Curaçao.

Besides musicians, AMAK also represents the interests of party organizers. In addition to Prime Minister Rhuggenaath, ministers Steven Martina of Economic Development and Quincy Girigorie of Justice have also received letters.

According to AMAK, the current situation is due to the series of measures taken from mid-March in connection with Covid-19. In addition, the AMAK believes that measures are carried out with double standards. On the one hand, according to the organization, there are organizations that do get permission for large groups and on the other hand, the nightclubs are not allowed to open.

AMAK certainly says it is not against the measures, but wants them to be the same for everyone. Finally, the organization and the Committee on Entertainment Interests (KIF) hope to hear from the government before 5 PM on October 7. If not, the two organizations mentioned will proceed to organize an event.
