Singapore authorities will be providing a one-time bonus for aspiring parents in the country who had to postpone their plans to have a baby due to the coronavirus pandemic and economic slowdown.

According to a report in CNN, Singapore deputy prime minister said the incentive for childbirth will be given to those facing difficulties in becoming parents given the current situation.

However, the amount for this bonus has not been decided yet. Like most other countries in the world, Singapore’s economy has also suffered a setback with the coronavirus situation.

According to the report, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said the government has received feedback that many aspiring parents had to postpone their plans of parenthood over the flailing economic situation.

The leader then added that these decisions are understandable and the government will look at providing help.

Singapore has one of the lowest birth rates in the world and governments have consistently tried to raise the numbers.

With Singapore economy now on a slump, the GDP shrank 12.6% in the previous quarter this year.

Singapore has recently seen seven new locally transmitted coronavirus cases while the numbers in the country have gone down to minimum.

The country has seen a total of over 57,000 coronavirus cases with 27 deaths. In September, Singapore was declared to have the lowest Covid-19 mortality rate in the world.

However, on October 6, the country confirmed 7 new locally transmitted coronavirus cases after days of reporting no cases.
