The United States extended its lead at the 43rd Ryder Cup with a hot start Saturday morning during the third session of the competition, putting forward another impressive showing in foursomes. After building a 3-1 lead in the format Friday morning and carrying a 6-2 lead into Saturday after a 3-1 run in four-ball, the U.S. for a third time in as many tries went 3-1 in the four matches to lead 9-3 overall entering the afternoon. It’s the Americans’ largest lead through three sessions since 1975.

For a second consecutive day, the Europeans struck first before an avalanche of American momentum closed the morning. The Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia pairing scored the first point of the day with a 3&1 win over Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger. The U.S. was 3 UP thru five in the match before Rahm and Garcia won seven of the final 12 holes. Rahm with the win is now responsible for every European point thus far in the Ryder Cup, and Garcia with the win became the winningest player in Ryder Cup history.

The Americans dominated the rest of the way with Collin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele closing out the morning with three straight wins. Johnson is now the first top-ranked American golfer win his first three Ryder Cup matches, while Schauffele matched him as the only other golfer with a 3-0 record thus far at Whistling Straits.
