KOLKATA: India had to keep waiting for that elusive gold medal in archery world championship when both the compound women’s and mixed teams faltered at the summit clashes to end up with silver medals in Yankton, USA, on Friday. In spite of making eight finals in the event, India have always returned as the second-best.
Colombia proved to be India’s nemesis on both the finals on Friday. While the seventh seeded women’s team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar went down quite tamely 224-229 to Sara Lopez, Alejandra Usquiano and Nora Valdez, the mixed pair of Abhishek Verma and Vennam lost 150-154 to Daniel Munoz and Sara.
India will now hope that Vennam and Verma, along with recurve archer Ankita Bhakat will make it all the way in their individual events.
