NEW DELHI: Opposition parties on Tuesday took a swipe at Congress amid the ongoing political crisis in Punjab as Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the post of state party chief.
While the Congress termed his move as an “emotional reaction”, BJP took a dig at by using a popular phrase used by Sidhu “chaa gaye guru”.
Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief, plunging the party into a fresh crisis just months ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Soon after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress president on Tuesday, former chief minister Amarinder Singh dubbed it a “drama” and said the cricketer-turned-politician is “unstable” and “not fit” for the border state.
“I told you so…he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab,” Singh tweeted soon after Sidhu posted a letter of his resignation to Sonia Gandhi on Twitter.
Raghav Chaddha, Aam Aadmi Party
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raghav Chaddha on Tuesday said that ‘selfish leaders’ of Congress are incompetent in running ‘stable, progressive, inclusive’ administration in Punjab.
“Complete and absolute state of anarchy in Punjab Congress. How can the people of Punjab expect these selfish leaders to give a stable, progressive and inclusive administration?” he said in a tweet.
“How can these people be trusted with a state which has 550km border with Pakistan?” he asked.
BJP UP
The BJP on Tuesday took a swipe at Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her visit to Uttar Pradesh at a time her party faced a fresh crisis in Punjab.
“Priyanka Vadra ji, you have come to UP at a wrong time. It was time to go to Punjab. Should a ticket for Punjab be arranged?” the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP tweeted in Hindi.
Sidhu, 57, who announced his resignation shortly after the allocation of portfolios to the members of the new state Cabinet, said he remains with the party.
Punjab chief minister Channi, once considered a Sidhu loyalist, claimed he was not aware of his resignation. “I have not received such information,” he told reporters.
Asked if Sidhu was upset over the allocation of the home portfolio to Randhawa and some other appointments, he said, “We will sit with Sidhu Saheb and talk to him. He is our president and a good leader.”
