Netflix’s original documentaries are usually immensely watchable, courtesy the sleek production and snappy editing. The streaming giant has especially upped the game in the true crime and sports — and its upcoming docu-series, Bad Sport, plans to meld the two genres.
The show, which drops on October 6, will examine six major scandals in sport and reflect on the role of greed in ruining careers and lives. Among the crimes teased in the trailer are the 1994 point-shaving scandal at Arizona State University, IndyCar racer Randy Lanier’s marijuana-smuggling operation and South African cricketer Hansie Cronje’s match-fixing scandal.
With interviews from sources involved at the core of the crimes, the show promises to be an enthralling study of how greed can snatch glory from a celebrated sportsperson and all that could have been.
