CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — B.T. Potter had four field goals including the tiebreaking kick late in the third quarter and Clemson’s defense made the lead hold up as the 25th-ranked Tigers won their 11th straight over Boston College 19-13 on Saturday night. The Eagles drove to the Clemson 12 in the final minute before quarterback bobbled the snap and defensive end K.J. Henry fell on the ball for the Tigers to seal the win. Clemson ran its home win streak to 31 games, although it was the second game in row here it had to survive a chaotic finish.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Nick Sciba kicked a 29-yard field goal with 22 seconds left and No. 24 Wake Forest beat Louisville 37-34 to remain unbeaten. Sam Hartman threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest also got a huge boost late from Justice Ellison with several key runs on the go-ahead drive. Louisville got a final drive with a chance to tie but its lateral-filled final play didn’t cross midfield to end it. Malik Cunningham threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Cardinals.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Sam Howell threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns and North Carolina topped Duke 38-7, keeping hold of the coveted Victory Bell for a third straight year. The Tar Heels jumped ahead with a pair of explosive plays in the first half. Howell connected with running back Ty Chandler down the sideline for a 75-yard score to open the scoring. Less than two minutes later, Kevin Hester hit Duke’s Gunnar Holmberg as he was throwing, causing the ball to flutter out of his hand and Trey Morrison returned the fumble 63 yards for a touchdown. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Duke, which struggled mightily on offense.
ATLANTA (AP) — Kenny Pickett passed for 389 yards and four touchdowns, and Pittsburgh dominated Georgia Tech 52-21. Pitt intercepted the first two passes by Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims, with linebacker John Petrishen returning the second 33 yards for a touchdown to help the Panthers to a 42-14 lead by halftime. Pickett was methodical in completing 23-of-36 passes. On the season, he has passed for 19 touchdowns with just one interception, which wasn’t made by Georgia Tech. Pitt has scored at least 41 points in each of its five games, the first such streak in program history. The Panthers are averaging 52.4 points per contest.
