Oklahoma Sooners drop again in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Win close with offense or win close with defense, it doesn’t seem to matter to the voters in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. For the second straight week the Oklahoma Sooners dropped a spot in the Coaches Poll after a second straight win in Big 12 play by a score.

Though the final score might indicate a six-point win for the Sooners, Oklahoma was in control of that contest over the game’s final 30 minutes. The Kansas State Wildcats needed a kickoff return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to bring the game within six points and the Sooners recovered an onside kick and were able to kneel to finish out the contest.

Both Iowa and Penn State rose two spots in the poll to join Alabama and Georgia in the top four.

Two of the Oklahoma Sooners rivals made climbs in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches poll this week. Oklahoma State climbed six spots from no. 18 to no. 12 and the Texas Longhorns rejoined the top 25 after falling out after their loss to Arkansas several weeks ago.

The Sooners now spend the next six days getting ready for those Texas Longhorns and the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas, Texas.

A look at the full coaches poll after week five’s games.
