England all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a lower back injury.
Curran, who is currently playing with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, complained of back pain after their match against the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday.
He was immediately taken in for scans, which revealed an injury and will fly back to UK in a couple of days for a full review from the ECB’s medical team.
Tom Curran has been drafted into the squad as Sam’s replacement. Additionally, left-arm pacer Reece Topley has also been added as a travelling reserve.
Already dealing with the absence of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, Curran’s injury will come as another major blow for Eoin Morgan and co. With his ability with both the bat and the ball, Curran was drafted into the squad as a genuine all-rounder, lending balance to the side.
England will open their campaign against defending champions West Indies on October 23 at the Dubai International Stadium.
