NEW DELHI: The Indian selectors are set to add a few more players to India’s T20 World Cup team as net bowlers. The names of the bowlers are yet to be finalised but what will be interesting to see if the selectors opt for any backup for mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who is suffering from dodgy knees.
However, according to sources pacers Umran Malik and Harshal Patel are in the reckoning to join the team after the IPL.
Sunday is the deadline to submit the final teams to the International Cricket Council.
“Chakravarthy was selected because he was fit to play. If his injury can be managed through the World Cup, he will certainly be in the team,” a top BCCI official told TOI on Saturday.
There is also a buzz of in-form leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal staying back. Rahul Chahar was preferred over Chahal for the World Cup but Chahal has shown better form in the ongoing IPL.
“No decision has been taken on Chahal. It’s unfortunate that Mumbai Indians had dropped Rahul Chahar from the playing XI. If Chahal will be asked to stay back as a cover will be decided once the selectors and team management discuss the situation,” the official said.
