SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The reigning NCAA champion Stanford women’s basketball team has been picked to win the Pac-12 regular-season title in a preseason poll of conference coaches. The Cardinal earned 11 first-place votes. Oregon was chosen second after a run to the Sweet 16 and received the other first-place vote. Hall of Fame coach Tara VanDerveer’s Stanford team captured the NCAA title last spring for the first time since 1992 and third in program history, topping fellow Pac-12 opponent Arizona in the championship game.
UNDATED (AP) — Trying to figure out the Pac-12 Conference’s top offensive player remains a difficult proposition even this far into the season. Colorado running back Jarek Broussard was last year’s Offensive Player of the Year but he has yet to post a 100-yard game as the Buffaloes have struggled. But much like Broussard emerged out of nowhere last season, the conference has some contenders who have put up noteworthy numbers now that they have the spotlight to themselves. They include USC’s Drake London, Arizona State’s Jayden Daniels, UCLA’s Zach Carbonnet and Brittain Brown and Oregon State’s B.J. Baylor.
